Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first appointment at Crystal Palace Osteopathy.

Do I need a GP referral to see an osteopath?

No. You can book directly — no GP referral needed. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners, so you can come to us as your first port of call for any musculoskeletal pain or injury.

What should I wear to my first appointment?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. For some assessments you may be asked to remove outer clothing so posture and movement can be properly examined. We keep the clinic warm and comfortable.

How long is the first appointment?

Your first appointment lasts one hour. This covers a full consultation, medical history, physical examination and treatment. Follow-up appointments are typically 45 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your condition, how long you have had it, and how your body responds to treatment. Many patients see significant improvement within two to four sessions. Our aim is to get you out of pain as quickly as possible — and we will recommend home exercises to support your recovery.

Is osteopathy covered by private health insurance?

Many private health insurance policies do cover osteopathy. Please check with your insurer before your appointment. We will issue receipts so you can make a claim. We accept payment by cash, bank transfer or cheque.

Is osteopathy safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Osteopathy can be a safe and effective treatment for the back pain, pelvic discomfort and postural changes that occur during pregnancy. Virginia is experienced in treating pregnancy-related conditions and will adapt techniques to suit you.

What conditions do you treat?

We treat back pain, sciatica, neck and shoulder pain, sports injuries, joint pain, headaches, whiplash, pregnancy-related back pain, postural problems and repetitive strain. If you are unsure whether osteopathy can help, get in touch and we will advise.

How do I book an appointment?

Text or call 07719 432 025 — texting is usually the quickest way to reach us as we may be treating when you call. You can also email virginia.ss@gmail.com. We are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am to 8pm.
